Why NOT Fair Trade

Being born in America is like winning the lottery.  We consume more goods than any other country on earth.  Americans, along with a few other developed countries, make up just 20% of the worlds' population, yet devour 86% of the pie!  This leaves the remaining 80%  men, women, and children, scrambling to get a tiny piece of the 14% that 's left over.

Today we live in a world that enables us to access anything our hearts desire from almost anywhere in the world.  But if you were to look into the faces of the farmer, seamstress, or artisan who makes less than a dollar a day, as they ask you to buy their goods, would you offer them a wage worthy of their work, or walk away bragging about the great deal you just got?  By making the choice to pay a living wage to workers and not supporting businesses that thrive off of substandard working conditions and wages, we take a stand against poverty.  With the profit from their labors from a fair or "living" wage, farmers and artisans are empowered.  They are able to provide food and shelter for themselves and their children: send their children to school rather than to work.  Purchasing fair trade is the most direct way you can take action against inhumane child labor, human trafficking, and slavery.........so why NOT fair trade?
